New This Week: Cronenberg's The Shrouds, Librarian drama Darkest Miriam and Conclave returns to the cinema.

Sunday June 29 at 3:30pm

Part of the series, Screen Bound: Read the book, watch the movie—or just watch the movie! Join the Cinema Society of Kingston for a film series of literary adaptations, each followed by a fun, book-club-style discussion.

Based on a novel by Robert James Waller: During a hot Iowa summer in 1965, photographer Robert Kincaid, played by Clint Eastwood, forms an unlikely companionship with lonely farm wife Francesca, played by Meryl Streep. Theirs is a fraught romance with ample yearning. Watch Eastwood and Streep grapple with difficult decisions whilst looking as good as any two people have ever looked, amidst beautiful rural landscapes.

Immaculately performed, and assembled with wit and sensitivity, this is one of the most satisfying weepies in years. – Time Out

Madison County is Eastwood’s gift to women: to Francesca, to all the girls he’s loved before — and to Streep, who alchemizes literary mawkishness into intelligent movie passion. – TIME Magazine
