Valentine's Week Romance: La La Land & An Affair to Remember

March 29 and 30

Part of the Indigenous Languages Celebration organized by Kahwa:tsire Programs.

We’re thrilled to be screening the Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) version of Star Wars: A New Hope. See the 1977 George Lucas classic like it was meant to be seen: On the big screen! Don’t know Ojibwe? No problem. The film is subtitled if you haven’t already memorized the dialogue. Initiated by Dougald Lamont, former Member of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly, this project began in 2021 as a language revitalization effort. After proposing the idea to Pablo Hidalgo, a former Winnipegger and Lucasfilm executive, the project received enthusiastic support.

The greatest kids’ picture for adults since “The Wizard of Oz.” – NPR

I haven’t had as much fun at a movie in years. With its technical wizardry, high-velocity storytelling and spirited good humor, Star Wars dazzles the child in us. – Newsday
