This screening is presented by The Cinema Society of Kingston and is part of the periodic body horror series, Beyond The Flesh, programmed by Noah Berc. Noah will introduce the film, focusing on on Barbra Creed’s The Monstrous Feminine, Modern Theology in horror and Voyeurism as a feminist theory.
Set in 1970’s Montreal, Rabid (1977) follows Rose Millar, a young-woman who survives a heinous motorcycle accident by receiving an experimental surgery. Despite saving her life, the procedure has a few killer side-effects, including a new appendage and a contagious lust for blood. Filled to the brim with David Cronenberg’s notorious blood-chilling visual effects, this early entry on his resume paved the way for films like The Fly (1986) and Scanners (1981).
