New This Week: Cronenberg's The Shrouds, Librarian drama Darkest Miriam and Conclave returns to the cinema.

Sunday July 20 at 3:30pm

Part of the series, Screen Bound: Read the book, watch the movie—or just watch the movie! Join the Cinema Society of Kingston for a film series of literary adaptations, each followed by a fun, book-club-style discussion.

Based on the writing of Hunter S. Thompson: Raoul Duke (Depp) and his volatile Samoan attorney Dr. Gonzo (del Toro) are en route to Las Vegas, ostensibly on a banal journalistic assignment, but the suitcase full of psychoactive narcotics in their possession tells another story. Beset by bats, horny lizards and a runaway hotel carpet upon their arrival, the pair plunge deeper into the pharmaceutically enhanced neon underbelly of the City of Sin on a chemically charged savage journey to the heart of the American Dream.

It’s certainly distinctive, looking at times like Richard Lester put through a postmodernist blender. – Chicago Reader

Visually incredible and blessed with great performances from Depp and Del Toro, this is destined for cult classic status. – Empire Magazine
